We are enthusiastic about supporting our natural environment and maintaining our natural resources without which there would be no fine boxes. So we look for sustainably harvested woods from well managed forests.
Illegal logging is rife in many major tropical timber producing countries. This causes deforestation, loss of biodiversity and leads to climate change. It also, creates conflict between indigenous and local populations, leading to violence and abuse.
It is also illegal within the UK to trade products made from these protected species laid down by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES).
As a result, we source materials from companies signed up to ethical standards such as the Timber Trade Federation’s Environmental Code of Practice, the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) or Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC).
We mainly purchase European and North American hardwoods which come from well maintained and sustainable planted forests. However, we buy exotic woods as veneer. This goes much further and thus fewer trees are used.
