A small Walnut Burr watch box holding two wrist watches on soft yet firm cylinder cushions. The box includes a small tray for cuff links and other accessories.
The exterior of the handmade wooden box is covered in a dark chocolate American Black Walnut burr veneer. Medium brown and black swirls dance across and enhance this burr. Additionally, the edges of the box are a lighter coffee coloured straight grained Walnut. These are inlaid with Kingwood lines of a dark purplish or reddish brown with darker black streaks which complements dark brown Walnut.
A soft hairsheep leather in vivid Purple Haze lines the interior of the box. The bright lining almost illuminates the dark chocolate of the Walnut Burr watch box. Two sections are provided for the watches, each with a leather covered cushion. Similarly, the smooth leather also lines the Walnut tray. As the tray is suspended in the front compartment, this results in there being plenty of usable space underneath.
Brass stopped hinges and a brass sliding catch are fitted to the box.
Finally the box is finished with a low sheen lacquer.
This kind of Walnut burr normally has a close or sparse burr sometimes with just a wild grain, either way giving an interesting pattern with a deep rich colour. In the US, black walnut continues to be known as the aristocrat of native hardwoods and the hallmark of tradition.
